I agree that energy makes everything easier: resonating with the audience, but also writing.
In my experience, another factor is more important, though. The topic.
Some topics are just too attractive. Case in point, "make money writing" has always been one of the most read topics on Medium. And it also works outside Medium. My most read article is exactly about that topic.
But not everyone can choose to talk about the most popular topics.
I see what you mean, Alberto. The topic does play a big part, especially on Medium. I think top earners are in tech and design, self-help, and health. Personally, I wouldn’t let a topic discourage me from writing about something I want to share. There have been plenty of posts and books that went against all odds, and the authors did very well, especially when they followed their gut instincts.
Deni, this is so inspirational. You are always providing jewels and giving everyone crowns. I’m intrigued and motivated to just keep going. My late Momma always said, “Nothing beats a failure, but a try.” I will keep going and will get there. I’m really stepping outside the box and it feels darn amazing. Great things happen at the right time in the right season and I feel I am in my season now. I’m so grateful for this advice always. Thank you friend 💕

After reading this, I'm shutting down one of my publications. Ive been on the fence whether to continue it, and it just doesn't make sense for me. I spent thousands on SEO, copywriting etc. But I don't want to teach that, just want to focus on my passion- skincare. Big thanks

I think that for certain topics you have to set very low expectations. Or at least much lower than others.
